REGENERATION OF LUNGS

Developing a bioreactor for regeneration of human-size lung starting with a decellularized animal lung as a scaffold. Stem cells of a patient deposited on the scaffold will differentiate into the native cells and would eventually turn the scaffold into a living autologous lung ready for transplant. Aerosol technology is being used to coat the large airways of the scaffold with stem cells, differentiation factors and nutrients, so the desired breathing function would be maintained during the regeneration process.
